Why We Wear Blue

At Starfish Project, we wear blue to stand for freedom. Blue is the global color of human trafficking awareness, symbolizing hope and solidarity with survivors around the world. 

Each year, there are two key moments when advocates everywhere wear blue to raise awareness:

• January — Human Trafficking Prevention Month, including #WearBlueDay led by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.

• July — World Day Against Trafficking in Persons, recognized globally by the United Nations.

On both days, we join advocates and communities around the world in wearing blue to spark conversion, honor survivors, and remind the world that every woman deserves freedom.

What Blue Stands Against

Human trafficking remains one of the world’s most urgent human rights crises. According to the International Labour Organization, over 40 million people worldwide are trapped in modern slavery, and more than 70% of trafficking victims are women and girls. These numbers remind us why we wear blue: to raise awareness, spark conversation, and inspire change.

When we wear blue, we stand against injustice and honor the courage and resilience of survivors. Blue is more than a color, it’s a reminder that awareness is the first step toward change.

How Blue Provides Hope

The women of Starfish Project remind us every day why this movement matters. One of those women is Bay, whose story you can read in our Stories of Hope series.
