Last week, everyone in our literacy classes took a proficiency assessment test that tests their ability to identify a word, match a word to its definition, and their ability to choose the right word or phrase to complete a sentence. When Nina started at Starfish Project, she started out without the ability to read, but on this assessment she scored more than 60%. This is quite a significant achievement for Nina, going from being completely illiterate to a 3rd grade reading level. We are so proud of Nina, her hard work and what she has accomplished!
